Meet Norma Barbosa
For more than two decades, Norma has walked alongside families as they prepare to welcome their babies into the world. As a Registered Adult Nurse and Midwife, she has dedicated her career to supporting parents during pregnancy, birth, and the early weeks of parenthood—moments that can be both beautiful and overwhelming.
Norma’s journey spans over 20 years of specialised practice in antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care. Having lived and worked across diverse communities in London and now in Portugal, she brings a deep understanding of the cultural, emotional, and practical needs that shape each family’s experience. Fluent in English, Portuguese, and Spanish, she offers truly personalised support for international families, multicultural households, and neurodivergent parents who may require care that is adapted to their unique way of experiencing the world.
Norma’s approach is grounded in compassion, evidence-based practice, and partnership. She combines her clinical expertise with extensive training in breastfeeding support, perinatal mental health—including support for neurodivergent women—personalised care, leadership, and quality improvement. Her work in several London NHS Trusts included leading initiatives focused on maternity innovation, reducing health inequalities, improving patient experience, and promoting equity in service provision. These projects strengthened her belief that maternity care should honour each family’s values, background, and needs.
MaternoNest was born from that belief. In Portugal, Norma is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, culturally sensitive space where families feel informed, confident, and truly supported. Whether guiding parents through the healthcare system, offering breastfeeding support, or providing calm, grounded care during pregnancy and postpartum, she strives to ensure every family feels seen, heard, and empowered.
At the heart of her work is a simple philosophy:
Every family deserves care that respects their story and nurtures their journey.
